Photos of turkey, deer and coyote in our yard.  The turkeys love bird food.

Where will they go, those creatures of the wild; their territory lost through human cause. Confused, they enter private yards; exiled, they're waved or shushed away without a pause. Wealth traded for the end of forest laws, when once those animals with nature sought their happiness in roaming land because this was their home before destroyed and bought for building mega-mansions with no afterthought. Sandra M. Haight ~6th Place~ Contest: One Stanza - One Only Sponsor: Broken Wings Judged: 07/19/2016
Form: Spenserian Stanza: Each stanza contains nine lines in total: eight lines in iambic pentameter followed by a single line in iambic hexameter. The rhyme scheme of these lines is "a b a b b c b c c. Note: We built our home 50 years ago and there were many acres of forest between our neighborhood of homes and the Hudson River, where all wildlife lived peacefully. Over the last fifteen years, that wild forest property was developed to build mega-mansions with river views. Now we have deer, fox, coyote, wild turkey, raccoon, and many birds that were displaced and have moved west into neighborhoods like ours to find food, and my heart breaks for them because they are out of their element. The pictures above are of some that visit our yard regularly.

It is sad to see so many animals displaced from their natural habitats due to progress. It seems so unfair. Great write, Sandra! Congrats on your placement! Blessings!

Nothing beats a natural habitat, Sandra. Expansion of buildings, etc cannot be stopped, but surely it can be controlled; our natural heritage is at stake. ~ Congratulations on this fine win...very deserved. // paul

It is very sad, and I believe we are messing with the natural balance of things way too much. Good write, it needs to be said!

It is sad to see them displaced but at least they are hanging around with residents permission..Their presence can be aggravating in that some are dangerous and some of the large birds leave droppings all around..I am surrounded by wildlife but they are in the wooded areas that surround my home..Thanks for the visit to my page..Sara

Thank you for your visit, Sara, and for your supportive comments. Yes, they do hang around in landscaped areas, but it is not quite the same as being in their natural habitats in wooded areas. In the winter, it is not unusual to see 7 or 8 deer trying to eat dropped seed from the birdfeeders in front of our house at night! Hugs, Sandra
