Where Hope Cannot Rise

We're all born with the same hopes
found in the heart of a child.
For in our youth, innocence
embodied humanity.
But we're taught souls separate
humans from all animals.
And God gave Man dominion
over all creatures on Earth.
Man shares a proclivity
for waging war and mayhem.
And anxiety fuels
fragmented fantasy dreams.
Some souls, mired in depression,
sink to where hope cannot rise.
Yet, we ignore the anguish
of those drowning in despair.
Christians tout Armageddon
as righteous retribution.
But Satan's more amused than
shocked; by their audacity.
Heaven is assigned the role
of a posthumous reward.
And labeled as blasphemy,
truth gets routinely ignored.
