When Summers Were Fun

Remember when summers were fun? When the days were long and you were gone From just after dawn 'till the setting sun Remember when summers were fun When you didn't go to work or to school When you hung out with your buddies at the local pool Remember when summers were fun When you played baseball for hours and hours on end When Mom couldn't track you, couldn't text messages send Remember when summers were fun When you teased the girls, before you first noticed their curves When you played daredevil on your bike, stunts of steel nerves Remember when summers were fun When in one giant gulp you downed an ice-cold coke When no one was offended by an off-color joke Remember when summers were fun Well, if you do, you may be the only one Because those kind of summers are finished and done

Depends on who their parents are these Days and kids have no business on iPhones stall. They need to connect. And there was no PC that I remember.so most anything was said. Panagiota

Yeah, you're right, Panagiota. Without PC's back then, we actually had freedom of speech! Now Big Brother is watching us (all the time). Scary today. ~ gw

The children of today would read this and wonder if it was written on Pluto.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Sadly, it seems that I now share the stage with Plutarch! ~ gw

'Pins and needles' is certainly an apt expression for what kids have to be on today--if they're not on drugs for recreation or depression or ADD or... Looking at how my granddaughters and others their age have been growing up/old fast, I'll take my childhood any day. (And my childhood was no picnic, believe me. STILL!). Thanks for this (and all of your) perceptive comment(s). ~ Gershon

Hey, Charlie! Thanks for your enthusiasm over this one. Nostalgia reigns...But, boy, some of those memories really seemed dim...And from your mouth to G-d's ear: Only hope I live long enough to say, 'Remember when I wrote this poem... Here's to long life for you and yours! Thanks again for the comment and best wishes, Gershon
