When I Grow Old

When I grow old Will I forget to remember All my regrets? Will I be kind to myself With memories Of a universe of time Forfeited to fear? When I grow old Will phantoms fog my eyes Will ancient ghosts sing me lullabies Until I fall away Into dreams Now mournful and cold? Will I find myself awake in the dark Praying, Listening for that one lost beat Of my heart? When I grow old Will I have the strength To bear the weight of a world That never was?

This is good, and ends very strong. As I have-- inexplicably-- reached official old age, I can relate to many of your questions. with yes, yes, yes ....

Ha! Yes, inexplicably indeed. You think there is so much time...then you wake up one day a half century old and complaining about the price of coffee.?? Thanks for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome poem, Brian. What a wonderful perspective. Strong message about options before we even get to that stage. A FAVE for me. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my poem. As I get older I find myself ruminating on the decisions I've made in my life and all the things that I regret not doing because I was afraid of some imagined consequence. So, life goes on. We learn and, hopefully, grow as people. Thanks again for reading.
