When Even the Water Was Blue
Clock striking the eleventh hour and
I sit and watch and wait for your return,
Looking out into the night from my captain's perch,
Remembering you and yesterday,
When even the water was blue.
The lights steal on across the harbor,
Vehicles creep on the distant bridge
Their headlights - search lights in the mist...
Perhaps lighting the way to guide you home, I pray.
I reflect again,
Remembering your smile, your laughter
And again, that yesterday
Even the water was blue.
Now, it and I
Are cold and
Longing for you!
