What Will You Say?
“What have you to say
About your Christian walk?”
Our Lord will one day
Undoubtedly inquire,
Will the account you give
Be pleasing to his ears?
Or will it perish
Like chaff in the fire?
Will you be able to say
On that special day
As you are standing there
In front of his throne,
“Well Lord, I did
Just as you asked
And I hope none of it
You will bemoan;
I fed the hungry,
Visited the sick in their bed,
Shared my abundance
With those who had little,
I gave water to the thirsty,
A hand to the helpless,
And those less fortunate
Never did I belittle,
I did my best to impart
Your gospel to the lost,
Even though at times
I did not always feel able,
And occasionally I invited
A stranger into my home,
To break bread and
Share a meal at my table.”
What will you say
On that momentous day?
To his commands,
Have you been observant?
Well, as for me,
I hope my Lord will decree,
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
