What Shall I Do Today
What shall I do today?
The sun is still hiding and I don't feel much like play.
Maybe I'll walk the garden, plant a tree or smell a flower
but the chill is in the breeze and it's a very early hour.
Five fifteen and the birds are all awake
singing welcome to the day and all it promises to make.
Cold brisks the air off on the eastern shore
and the sun is just about to rise enticing birds to soar.
Purple gray clouds roll in separating east from west
and just a hint of sky blue encourages all rain to rest.
May has finally turned the tide bringing the season round
to fully complete a circle of the year newly gowned.
Stars disappear as the shade lifts and evening sky fall fast asleep
and in the shadows the first ray of light begins to creep.
Five thirty breeze dances high up in the trees
to flow and sway into the newest morn, awake and free.
Here it comes, five forty five just on the horizon, rising,
waking the rest of the world then calling out my name surprising
to mystify and open wide my eyes and wonder as I may,
what shall I do today.
