To lift you and fly you away Five million houseflies: To help you take flight Four hundred thirty seven thousand Honeybees: That hopefully wouldn’t sting Sixty five thousand Butterflies: Straining with all their might Eleven thousand Hummingbirds: In a blur of frantic wings Four hundred thousand bats (winged rats!): To bear you off without a sound Four hundred forty one pigeons: In a swirl of blue and grey Thirty one Bald Eagles: To lift both you and me off the ground Fly us off to their aerie and then …eat us straightaway…
