What Is Our Life
What is our life but a short-term existence on earth
Quite temporary from the beginning to the end,
In the grand scheme of human affairs from our birth
Could our purpose be to find comradeship or blend?
Still, there is a compelling urge to be independent--
What we idly call our freedom, our coveted liberty
On a grander scale what we are willing to fight for
Even sacrifice for the sake of feeling unencumbered
By someone, some nation, a cause unlike ourselves
Individualism, nationalism, or tribalism shall it be?
That motivates us to seize it all during our brief stay
Caring neither for history, nor what the future holds.
