What Is Love

It is quiet and dark, with no one around, Just a little girl, who was almost dying. My heart felt so heavy with grief when she looked at me with those sad blue eyes. The thought of dying perhaps frightened her as much as watching her die filled my stomach with pain, a pain I wish I could vomit. Sitting down, dull to my self, silently cursing under my breath, Since everything puts on a semblance Of sorrow. The bitter fragrance of death filled the air. From a distance,I could see it coming, Putting on a wicked grin, Anxious to taste her life, and take it all away. If only I could switch places with her, but it seemed only interested in her. To think that death rejected me, i truly might be as worthless as hell. Looking at her,I felt dejected. So sad eyed and soft and grey With her whole life ahead of her, Was death so heartless,I thought to my self. If only I could be more belligerent. That way I could at least draw his attention. The wind whispered something to her And like a zombie she walked aimlessly Towards the cold hands of death. Embracing him so tenderly with no fear Could she be insane!? On the verge of death....true! But possibly insane! Like a spark in the dark, It finally came clearer to me. Her life was nothing short of a tragedy. So painful it was pitiful. Infected with a virus she knew nothing About.from parents she never saw. Being cheated by nature and denied The sweet comforts of a family, Its safe to say she died of loneliness. Death offered what no one ever did An embrace, though a very cold one But being showered a bit of love, Was all she needed in her life. Those blue eyes,so sad and grey Her life ended the day she was born, For her father was a victim of HIV Passing it on to his innocent little girl. As I watched her go with death Out of plain sight, I thought to my self what is LOVE?.
