What Is Heaven
What is Heaven
But the taste of succulence
On your tongue
As you bite into fresh baked
Fruit pie, meringue piled ever so high
Sweetness mingled sublime
The peace of resting along the sea
Waves rolling in
to smooth your mind
With sun a glowing orange slice
Juice spilling a path to shore
The snuggle of puppies, heaven-sent
curled on your lap
Your grandchildren’s arms
Wrapped tight
About you in loving embrace
What is Heaven
But a warm bubble bath to envelop
Your tired aches
Or standing on a mountain top
Arms stretched out
In gratitude for the miraculous
The gatherings around the table
Set in holiday clothes
As you celebrate
One and all that heaven is
In the simplest of ways
What is Heaven
But that which is inside of us all
As the choir sings
Raising our faces to the sky
Hallelujah Hallelujah
It flows like this
Until shivers run up the hollow
Of your spine
And down shines the sun
Through parted cloud
Showing us
The pathway to Heaven above
What is Heaven
But full of mystery
Of light overcoming shadows
Amid our doubts and our strength
Clasping hands
Heaven holds our destiny
