He sits upon the edge of tomorrow, lost in his little world full of sorrow. Sands of time have no patience for his pain, bemused and confused he can't feel the rain. You ask, but his excuses feel so lame, so it's no surprise he's forgotten your name. He buries his heart behind a steel shield, cares not if you're still hurting or have healed. He craves to sit in chapel like silence, as church bells alarm his mind with violence. Voices torment, where did it all go wrong? His guitar rebels, cares not for his last song. Doctors don’t know how to save this John Doe.  A once kind man, his friends called Smiley Joe.

Sounds like psychiatrists have done a job on him. They are destroying hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

Your fictitious main character lives in sorrow, like so many others who have problems in life. For some there is no cure :( Regards // paul

There are so many delicate people out there who go through some kind of trauma. When that happens it seems like their whole world implodes. They lose everything. Great job here. God Bless, JB

There are many in the World like this! "it's no surprise he's forgotten your name" Sad indeed! Your thoughts always hold depth and emotion. Tender moments caress the page. Silent One. ~ Brandy

It's hard to know where it begins, but it's a difficult downward spiral to depart from if you won't speak. Very difficult to maintain a status quo. Better to reach for a hand to hold...Very moving piece, Silent One.

He craves to sit in chapel like silence, sometimes life hurts us so bad that is all we have the strength to do. Well written piece of pain, praying for Gods rain upon him. xo

Touching. Whenever I see someone in despair I wonder what kind of person they once were and what led them to their hopelessness. I love how you captured his deep emotions, and with a punch at the end, you mention who people had once known him as.

Hi Silent, It is so sad how life can start out good and then take a turn for the worst. This is clever and well written . Your poem causes me to sit and wonder/ ponder how many hospital beds, occupy a person with a similar story as the John For that wrote about? Excellent write my friend. Enjoy the rest of your evening:-) Alexis

Hi Laura, i found the picture after the poem. The poem is about someone I know who recently hurt a friend of mine, but i believe it is because he is not in a good place mentally. Thank you...

There are many like this, some hurt others as a result of their mental wellbeing and when the inevitable happens, it is too late... Thank you Wilma..

great sonnet, on a very poignant subject...so sad to see just a shell of someone we used to know...made me think of a faraway friend of mine, her husband was in a motorcycle wreck, lucky to be alive, yet doesn't recall his wife or children...they once were so close and she said it's like loving a stranger... good write my friend ... hugs
