art inspires me, Van Gogh fascinates me!                                    vermillion sky, glowing sunshine, rose-branches waltzing, birds chirping melodious rhapsody.  art imitates life...often at midnight, I get up, gaze at the Moon, mysterious beauty of a crescent shape! stars illuminating the dark sky ~ glittering fireflies..diamonds on the tiara of Mother Nature! Night-sky - a majestic painting by our Creator engrossed at His work! when Vincent Van Gogh looked at the starry sky from the window of his asylum...what did he see? He saw turbulent agitated swirling waves... are those the reflections of his own tempestuous mind - with numerous failures, anything he attempted at.. religion, sales, teaching, love..did he find his ultimate path in painting?  a meteor...a short-lived burst of talent,  which amazes the world even today ~ The more I look at the paintings of this mastermind, I am fascinated with the depth of feelings, the melancholy, the search for the truth of a true and unique artist! symbolic steeple of a church - visible above the abodes in a humble village. The village and the Church did not exist in the sight from his window, Vincent Van Gogh's imagination created the village at the bottom of the mountains - a memory from Netherlands of his childhood.  The sky is vibrant with turbulent waves, but  there are glittering stars, and the gleaming Moon with hope..  overpowering Cypress Tree in the forefront...reaching the sky, a towering tree of mourning...overshadowing the brightest star of morn! death was not ominous to Van Gogh, merely a bridge between life and heaven, Vincent Van Gogh had an extraordinary way of visioning the world... his paintings bear the passionate soul of an exceptional mind!   fascinated with awe I see the post-impressionist painting of a dreamy night before sunrise,  A tortured mind of a Genius had captured with his inimitable brush-strokes of blue and yellow. Reference: The Starry Night is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village. (Wikipedia) Post-Impressionists extended the use of vivid colors, thick application of paint, distinctive brush strokes, and real-life subject matter, and were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, distort forms for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary colors in their compositions. Mala, We share a fascination with Van Gogh. I also wrote a poem about Vincent and his tortured mind. People have called his unsettled mental condition many things, but he was also poor and hungry but still kept painting. I loved your thoughtful poem. Congratulations!

Dear Ann, Yes, we share the same fascination. Vincent's life was tragic, although he was such a great artist - a genius! I got inspired to read his letters to his brother, who supported him throughout his life, and believed in his talent. Really appreciate your beautiful comment.

I really love your poem Mala. Vincent Van Gogh is a favorite artist of mine. I wrote about him in My Ode to the Netherlands poem. He has his own museum in Amsterdam and it is there I fell in love with his art. Sadly he died thinking he was a failure. What joy it would bring him knowing how much his art is appreciated today. Congratulations on your HM. This poem is going into my Faves! Blessings xxoo

Dearest Connie, I know how much you love art, artists, especially Vincent Van Gogh. I envy you that you had the opportunity to visit his museum in Amsterdam. His life was so tragic - Inspired by my daughter, I read his letters to his brother, and watched many videos , explaining his art from different perspectives. Thank you for reading my poem, and including in your faves. I am fortunate to be your friend! Love and blessings ~ Mala

Malabika - I’m not typically an art lover, but you really drew me in with the descriptions of the painting, mixed in with discussions of the artist. Thank you for contributing this very interesting piece!

Mala, I love everything about this tribute to our favorite artist, Van Gogh! You have taken us on a journey of what he may have seen and thought as he was creating this masterpiece. You describe his scene with great admiration and insight, from the cypress tree and the dynamic night sky to the sleepy little town below. "diamonds on the tiara of Mother Nature", what a glorious way to depict his starry night! Going in my faves to enjoy again and again. I remember you telling me recently he is your favorite artist... I don't normally like to recommend my own poems, but I think you may like one I wrote called "That Starry Night". Blessings, my friend ~ John
