Welcome Back To Spring
It’s good to hear the birds all back again!
I missed all of their pretty serenades.
I wonder how they know just where and when
To start all of these musical parades.
It seems as soon as spring makes its debut
The air is filled with all these pretty songs.
It’s almost like responding to a cue--
The time of year to which this all belongs.
And each song tries to in its way convey
A message to the green, awakening world
That once again has dawned the happy day
When all which seemed so dead is now unfurled.
The competition’s lively in the air.
And yet I think to hear it all is great;
They do not seem to have a fear or care
As each one sings its own song to its mate.
And each year, though the ritual is the same,
I think it all says just one simple thing,
From each bird of each color and each name,
A hearty, warmfelt “welcome back” to spring.
