Weeping Trees
Golden leaves floating on the still waters,
Remnants of a life once in the treetops
Beckoning the wind, waving in the breeze,
Shading a bird perched below a branch,
Sheltering a worm from harm above.
Soon to sink to the watery depths below,
To decay and become one with the earth.
Giving a place for life below to feed,
And then become food for man above.
A cycle renewed from ancient times…
We are the custodians of nature’s balance.
Yet we kill the trees, diminish the leaves,
Poison the oceans with our own waste.
Nature weeps, and the earth weeps again.
