Weeping Nude - Edvard Munch

Listen to poem:
Inspired by Weeping Nude by Edvard Munch 1913. Viewing the image will make sense of the poem. It's a tame painting, but not sure if within PS rules to add to the post i.e it's a covered yet nude woman and called nude. Could therefore be considered nudity (it's not!) This is all of me that you reject The heart and soul, not just the physical As my hair tangles with my fingers that tangle with my tears, I am alone Even my shadow shrinks to nothing as I cry out my very heart Not for wanting you But for not wanting myself There's no salvation from that You are to be despised Though the issue is I despise myself so utterly That is the shame of this and why I weep To have entrusted myself to you Power given over that obliterated me I rolled the dice to find myself here, in this room, abandoned by you But more accurately abandoned by myself And so I cry, perhaps I'll cry all the hurt and pain out There will be a new day and I'll brush my hair and wash my face But for now, I'll experience this day completely in the hope that it will never be repeated In future I'll paint the pictures And they'll be happy ones

Beautifully done Dilly ! You are so adept in this poetic form . You can enter into the heart of the character under question or the image the artist has depicted. This poem on the Weeping Nude shows how much more devastating it is to be self renounced than being abandoned by others!

Thank you Valsa! Your comment made me revisit this one (which scored NA) and reconnect with what I'd written. Your evaluation brings it into sharp focus. I think a poem is many things, creativity, inner voice, connection with art but very key is that connection with a reader. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment x

Yeah it's done that before but self righted...

No quotes, any extraneous notes. Not "Inspired by". I asked them, and that was their reply during the week. I would go for Title, if I were you. Otherwise PS might hold you responsible... New Dawn :)

Every time I think about this I feel annoyed. I love writing nonsense with a lead in of nonsense... Who's to say what's the poem? With free verse I distinctly feel the poem could be the explanation before the poem and the poem just decorative. There must be examples in art - actually there are - I've seen photographs of black and it's the labels that create the art. They really do need to reconsider. I suppose at least I do have the notes section...

As you mentioned below: I love the idea of your new contest. How are we to include details about the painting if PS disallowed it? Or would it be best to incorporate these in the poem itself? Or make it the title of our Ekphrastic poem? Have a nice weekend, DD

Title makes sense, are we not allowed quotes or comments with our poems? I thought it was just sponsor and date

I added effects to the painting and may do my own rendition of what Munch was thinking. Think I'll roll the dice and try it, I'm inspired! For Gary: only pictures and poems allowed, if you are a prime member you can put your notes there in the notes area

Hi D D I'm unsure what rules you are referring to. Do you think the image itself would not be allowed on account of it upsetting people / being offensive etc or are you referring to a recent blog about dates not being allowed at the bottom of poems and thinking the same rule applies to images? Images can be added to poems in the "Notes About the Poem, Inspirational Photo, etc.(No poems allowed)" section Oh and great poem by the way. Cheers - Gary

Just says no nudity and it's a painting named nude - so playing it safe

So you can get a nude painting past the beaks, but I can't get a dildo past them. Double standards, me thinks. lol. Love trying to define art, gets you into their head and out of your own.

Haha I always have funny retorts to your comments but can never say them as I'd stray too far into my alter ego. I'll quietly be hilarious without anyone being aware of just what I might say I think :) thanks for your comment

Dilly Dally, you tell the story behind the weeping nude painting from your point of view well. There’s nothing offensive about the picture at all. I enjoy reading poems about paintings, I’ve done a few myself, my favourite is titled, See her See me in Artistry… Belle

I don't find anything amiss with the painting, but some snowflakes might just object (prompted by the title). I think that you have ably captured the essence of the inner turmoil of the subject and love your possible positive prediction of what the future holds for her.

Thanks Jan, it's more that it says it's nude and it is nude (but all covered). It would only take one person to take the funnies, so I'll play it safe. Thanks for spending some time with the poem and painting. I love getting absorbed in Munch paintings.
