1st place in the contest

- "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." - Michelangelo Among crimson flowers and sunsets in brushed calendulas My imagination will not be denied even though I am scared and alone among the fallen ribbons Where grief is a heavy chain Iron reflects on innocent earth Weep - silent tears at the grave - set the angels free An angel chiseled in shining white marble Characterized by silence Weep as a thin veil, otherworldly beauty in a blessed resting place Seeking comfort under own wings A divine place for tears and prayer which brings sanity back to normal level Weep - a weight from the past - set the angels free

Dear, sweet Anne - Lise, wow, this is a breathtaking piece of exquisite poetry. So poignant, so heartfelt. ‘ Where grief is a heavy chain’ ‘ seeking comfort under own wings’ ‘ set the angels free’. No Wow or Wonderful, but Weep (the word says it) and Wistful (My choice--woeful write) Write (I thought--"Oh woe am I as I write...") Whisper ("Teacher got her ruler!" "QUIET back there!") Great write on your well chosen 'WEEP,' and equally quote chosen--fantastic, Anne-Lise, with my compliments, my friend. Aloha, William

Dear Anne-Lise, Your poem is breathtaking. The imagery of "crimson flowers" and "sunsets in brushed calendulas" is stunning, contrasting with the "fallen ribbons" and "heavy chain" of grief. It feels like a release, a dawning of hope. The angel emerging from the marble reflects the beauty found even in sorrow. The emotions are so raw and beautiful. Very Inspirational, - Blessings, Daniel

Hey my friend.. Your poem speaks to the universal experience of grappling with loss and seeking solace in the face of adversity. It reminds us that even in our darkest moments, there is beauty and grace to be found, and that through mourning, we can find healing and redemption

What a heartfelt poem this is dear anne lise, i can feel the emotions flowing throughout this, grief and so much more, and how you find comfort in silence within yourself, alone, sometimes it is in seclusion we find healing, i especially felt the lines “ Among crimson flowers and sunsets in brushed calendulas My imagination will not be denied even though I am scared and alon among the fallen ribbons” that hits home! Fave this is.BOL

Wow! Just wow, Anne-Lise. An exquisite poem. Loved the imagery and these words: An angel chiseled in shining white marble Characterized by silence Weep as a thin veil, The last two lines, though, resonated with me for their wisdom...weep-a weight from the past. So true. Have to fave this...best wishes with the contest, hugs, Sara
