WEARY All encompassing nubmness greys my world Is seeping into every layer of me Is hurting every muscle of my self This pain that kisses my unwilling joints While sadness is what every person thinks Is all there is to what this feeling is And shrugging off is easy and a choice For sometimes human beings all are sad This is no sadness, nor is it a choice I do not choose to not participate To not feel freedom or the happiness That I so long for, that I know exists I want to rest my weary head on you To have you comfort me, say I will live Say I will conquer this time, make it through For after this I know that I belong *** Meme by Mel Leach December 7, 2016

Excellently crafted -- Was the initial inspiration from the Meme/Quote? Obviously it is about your man, but I'm curious how you started the poem -- was it from the darkness or from the lightness? I'm always interested in what "triggers" the first line(s), the seed. You don't have to share if it's too personal, I understand. Great work. --Wesley C. "To love someone deeply gives you strength. My friend Mel makes the memes. I wrote the poem and chose this meme afterwards, but I had it already in the back of my mind to use this one. Both my man and I suffer from MDD/clinical depression. (To be continued)

Since we are both different persons, we both have different reactions and symptoms, but this numbness, this grey disconnection from the world and its joys is something we share. Hence the opening line. Thank you for the quote. - Darren

Thank you, Nette. And yeah Iambic Pentameter Blank Verse, I absolutely love to use that, I am not sure why, I think for me it enhances the natural spoken language, the sort of explaining I am doing in this poem.

I hope he always will, he joined Soup, so that's a good start. But yes, having him is light in darkness.

There is an ocean of sadness out there, ever-present. I had to check, to make sure you're supposed to put in hyphen in there. While I was doing that, most of philosophy passed me by.

thinking about hyphens kills philosophy for sure :)...

There are so many lines in this poem that speak to me. Sadness is never easy to shrug off, no matter how many times we force ourselves to smile during the healing process, it's not easy. But as your wonderful poem states...there is always a light somewhere waiting to shine on us again. Nicely expressed Darren.

It's one HUGE struggle. And you do have to remind yourself, that there is actually light there yes.

- A poem with gray tones ... like my worst days of my fibromylagia ... when heart desires but the body does not ... Lovely written, the day is yours Darren :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Grey, well said, not black! And yes! The heart desires, but body and mind have a will of their own.

I agree with Darren. It is indeed compelling, I feel such sadness but reading the words of the last two lines of the penultimate verse are electric. You know happiness is out there. Go grab it. ??Best wishes

With Rick ;) I know Barbara. The poem is meant to give 'outsiders' some insight into what it means to live with clinical depression :) Thank you!
