We Shall Be Bells One Day
We shall be bells one day,
and play out with gladness to the wind.
For me, I'll be on the best steeple
in our land.
"Ding, dong, ding!"
and the shepherd boy
will not attend his sheep that hour
but look up to steeple and to me.
"Be good, shepherd boy"
from me and my companions...
(He'll know instinctively for him
and not for naught...)
We'll all be bells one day
and not think back to now at all,
when we aren't bell-shaped ordinarily
and are not made of smelted iron.
