WATERCOLORS If dawn has any value other than being a pretty picture It is that the start of a new day offers potential And the second chance we so often need: For life is a series of mistakes interrupted by temporary successes Which masquerade as victories for some and defeats for others; But both are illusions and their colors can be, and often are, Easily washed out - like the dawn in the early morning rain - And we only see as through a glass darkly * With no guide nor even hunch to lead us : And we sketch the outlines of our intentions With little certainty of filling in the colours or finishing the picture. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
