Watching You Sleep

I watch you in your peaceful sleep Dreaming a dream, something sweet The smile on your face leaves no doubt This is something you are happy about A sigh, a whisper and then a grin It is as if you’re giving in I wonder what your dream really is What is your wish and where does it live I pray to learn to live like you And then I find I already do As you turn toward me onto your side You reach out for me, I melt inside I never knew such happiness until now I seemed to doubt your love somehow As you speak my name soft and low It’s me you dream of, please don’t let me go.

Lena, how wonderful to find he was dreaming of you all along. You have a gift for telling a story while painting images and expressing emotions at the same time. I have a similar work, "Unicorn," in which I am watching a sleeper. Dreams are great hosts for poetic analysis, aren't they? Best wishes, Carolyn
