Was There With Him
Was There With Him
Why the Civil War it ain't no more,
And never knew what it stood for;
Brother killing brother and each other
And will there ever be another?
Rifles fired while cannons went booming
And over horizon had been looming
A ghost of someone I once knew
Never understood there point of view.
What if it is I who may be dying first
How I had died was not rehearsed
It was then I started to realize
My blown up body could not recognize.
So sweetheart she's still standing there
And at my tombstone starts to stare
Dreamed of me riding my horse;
Now she does live in deep remorse.
Just saw his ghost go passing by
Is now floating high up in the sky
Heaven's light is bright never dim
She wishes she was there with him.
