Walmart

I want to mingle with the people of Walmart as they regally push their shopping carts Eclectically dressed perfection each a work of art Camouflaged chic or an old guy dressed like a tart Back and forth my eyes dart Over there a sequinned heart and here a bedazzled jacket that looks real smart Some saunter, some sashay reaching into pockets and purses to pay The happy faced discounts make everyone’s day Treasure troves in hand life’s better than okay See the flying nun with her habit hiding her gun Today’s discounted ammo is tomorrow’s fun As I watch her pay I wonder if her beads and bullets help her to pray A coupon cowboy basement bargain pleasure a new pair of jeans some pork and beans for good measure Get in, get out no time for leisure Here the world moves too fast he don’t like the pressure Low cut tight tops girls searching for cheap bargains galore listen to the cash registers beep I let the sights and sounds into my brain seep None of these people are sheep humanity is well beyond skin deep Lingering laughter later might make it hard to sleep Perhaps too much butt cleavage and beep bleep bleep! Inspired by Kurt Ravinda’s poem “A Metophor” his is a brilliant piece.

This was so funny. I loved the imagery. Funny thing happens when I go. I enter to buy socks & come out w/ all kinds of things I never intended to buy, things I was convinced I needed, just too pretty & sparkly to resist. Those clever marketing people know my weaknesses. I never see it coming until things start to appear in my cart. How does that happen? Tee hee, I confess, I am an occasional "Wallyworld" weak shopper. Don't tell :-)

Well this was certainly different ... all the world's a microcosm within the doors of your corner grocery store. Though you write poetry, you have the eye of a storyteller (a nun with a gun and coupon cowboy?) You captured the color and commotion alright. I have some friends that refuse to shop there because it's too ghetto-feeling ... people dress like they just got out of bed, or wear little to nothing at all. Lol.

Very funny and such good observation. But even Walmart has to close over Christmas. Happy Seasons Greetings, Kai

Very witty and insightful, R. Reux. It made me chuckle w/holiday glee. Making an old lion laugh is Mustafa worthy. The circle of life has an ink outline. Real posh poetry. Love and more love always.

I loved this humorous take on the whims of the patrons of Walmart. There really is a mix of all types who shop there. Sadly it is becoming better known as an unsafe place where chaos reigns because of the recent violence. Their prices will always keep people coming back. Excellent Richard! xxoo

By gosh Richard … we don't have Walmart down here, but I'd love to take my family on a sight seeing adventure in one of their stores - very educational Richard - Lindsay

They've gotten my money plenty of times. The nun buying bullets; that's her right. Sheep or a wolf? Is the question. We have to decide daily.

Very true. Sadly some people’s rights result in others losing their life and liberty.

like this one, but even the rich shop at Wal-mart you see them here in Houston Tx.. every penny saved is a penny earned

Lol! Richard, I enjoyed your interesting piece. I had a family member that used to work at Walmart. Maybe all the chaos you wrote about in your poem is why they don't work there anymore. As always great job. Have a great weekend:-) Alexis

"Today’s discounted ammo is tomorrow’s fun As I watch her pay I wonder if her beads and bullets help her to pray" - this poem is hilariously accurate, Richard.

Wow, this is a great poem, drew me in, now I'm wishing Australia would get Walmart in. I think it would be cool, much like the 80's when fashion sense was anything you wanted it to be. Not sure about the butt cleavage though...Ugg not a good look.....Maria :)

Comments to this poem made me wonder why the noun "people" are more willing than other nouns to assign adjectives. American people, Russian people, Walmart's people, etc. Hm, what if to reverse nouns and adjectives? A people's Walmart! Heh, it sounds a bit of the North Korean)

Interesting piece, Richard. Myself, I haven't seen anything at all like what you've penned, where I shop not infrequently… although, yes, it's there on the internet videos for sure. Smiles, Gershon
