This morning I woke to the sound of a gentle rain. There were no squeals of laughter, it was so quiet. I remembered a morning and a child's joyful refrain. "Wake up, Mommy, said my precious little one. "Let's go see if Santa came down our chimney." Christmas Day of madness had officially begun. Years gone by, my little girl has a child of her own. I wonder if he's waking her with peals of laughter. So many years gone by...where have they flown? Today she'll call and tell me about my grandson. Respectfully she won't wish me a Merry Christmas because she knows why I choose to honor The One. She won't expect gifts wrapped in ribbons of gold. Presents I lovingly send to them for no reason at all. When snow drifts are deep and north winds too cold, I'll warm myself with memories of years gone by. This morning I woke to the sound of a gentle rain. When the phone rang I heard my grandson's cry. I remembered a morning and a child's joyful refrain.

this has a tinge of sadness to it . I did not quite get stanza 4 but I sure liked the nostalgic element and the form you chose to write in!

9 years ago I became a JW. The beginning recalls my daughter being excited Christmas morning...4th verse is her having accepted the fact that I no longer celebrate it, so she called to say hello and tell me about my grandson's latest escapade, but she wouldn't wish me the usual greeting of the day out of respect for my belief. It's not meant to be sad... just nostalgic, but I thank you for asking.;)

Well written Lin, nice to see when family respects faith although different. Family is so important in these difficult times, but our faith is what keeps us going. Many don't understand when a Christian doesn't celebrate Christmas, hopefully one day they will get it.
