Waiting Room
Sitting in the waiting room,
Waiting for my turn,
Is it up to the pearly gates?
Or down the stairs to burn?
Have I recorded positives,
While I’ve been on the earth?
Or on my list of big success,
Will they find there’s a dearth?
Have I been a sinner,
Or was I mostly good?
Or maybe there’s too many things,
Perhaps I never should.
So as I say my last farewell,
Will we say “hi” again?
And are we destined for same place?
Though don’t know where or when.
Will I be reunited,
With those whose loss I mourned?
Or will I reconnect with those,
Who in the past I scorned?
I know I’m contemplating,
Things of which I’ve no control,
And time no longer is my friend,
It’s just about my soul.
I hope that it’s not purgatory,
And no decision made,
Please send me one way or the other,
No, I’m not afraid.
It comes around to all of us,
And my times nearly here,
The judge’s indecision,
Now the only thing I fear!
So as I shout my last hurrah,
My work now here is done,
Goodbye, I hope we’ll meet again,
It’s been a lot of fun!
