Vincent

...with gratitude to an incomparable artist Your vision is a beacon gracing us with golden sheen, though your heart was dark and heavy with redemption rarely seen. You plumbed the probabilities of faithlessness and fear, you challenged life's inequities and often with a tear of sadness in your dream-dimm'd eyes and shades of anguish too, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.

I never understood his art Keith but I understand your poetry and the art in it stirs me more than Vincent ever could. Beautiful!

I must admit I am not a fan at all. I prefer modern art really: Lichtenstein is a definite favourite. However, I do adore this poem. The beauty passes far beyond the artist and the canvases. Keith, I really see this as a kind of swansong to beauty and humanity in general. Especially since if you take away the title it could be about whoever we want it to be about; a wonderful way to keep it relevant at all times. A beautiful piece indeed and very well crafted! I have the song on a McLean CD. I used it to make a presentation in college when I was studying Appreciation of Art. Van Gogh was one of my late husband's favorites, too. Sadly, every time I name a cat Van Gogh, he disappears in the woods surrounding my home. I often wonder what became of them. When my husband was dying, he asked if Van Gogh had come home. I lied and said he had. It seemed to soothe John's suffering a bit.

Hello, my fellow Van Gogh lover! The last two lines remind me of Don McLean's tribute to the passionate artist. Van Gogh certainly suffered, didn't he? He has a lot in common with Emily Dickinson; neither was appreciated while they were alive. And, yes, I'm having trouble sleeping tonight. We're having terrible storms and our roads are flooded. When this happens, there are usually some foolhardy students from the university who lose their lives trying to get through flooded roads.
