Vigil
I am the breeze that you do not feel,
a warrior that sings no battle hymn.
Even though my heart is made of steel,
for you I would sacrifice life and limb.
There is nothing I can not resist,
the weight of the world I often hold.
I was born ready with a clenched fist,
to protect you from the savage cold.
And some may call me a liability,
yet they do not know of what I dream.
I devote myself to your tranquility,
no matter how scarred I may seem.
I close my eyes and see the hurt,
and shield you from a hoard of pain.
Carrying you across this barren desert,
until you are once again mundane.
Sleep in my arms without regrets,
let angels veil you with their cries.
For I will vanquish a thousand threats,
and save you from a thousand lies.
