vanished
I planned a trip to take me back to yore to find the loving days of long ago, back home to all the friends we used to know and the familiar sweetness of before. But there are none that we knew anymore, they've slipped away, the ones whom we loved so and not one thing from those loved years to show I sit alone beside the ocean's roar. All vanished with you when you went away those sunny, merry, loving days of old, the happiness of youth's not meant to stay. My dearest love, since God took you that day, no loving arms are here now to enfold. He took the sunshine, all my skies are gray.

Over Christmas 2017, I visited my home state and went back to see our old house. Everything had changed. It's a sad and sometimes frightening experience to realize those people and things we knew and loved are gone. Congrats on a first-place win, Joyce! Hugs, Carolyn

Dear Joyce, How much I can relate to the message behind the impeccably written and creative poem. We are remembered in this world only until the last person who knew us has passed over. The loneliness and nostalgia are beautifully conveyed. Congratulations on your win! Love you, Carolyn
