Vacation From the Past
I've waited all year for this week to arrive.
A week in the sun , and a long trip on a train
Cornwall the county I'm going to visit
pasty's and cream teas, calling my name
Brunels, royal Albert bridge will welcome me in
Liskeard the gateway as my last leg begins
The train follows the river you can glimpse through the woods
East Looe and West Looe come into my sight
The smell of the sea and the call of the gulls
Greet your arrival and the start of your hol's
Tight cobbled streets with cafe,s and shops
A harbour filled with lots of working boats
A pier and a beach with crystal clear sea's
Offers of boat trips to Polperro and St Ives
crab fishing from dockside's and local ice cream
You finish your day with a trip to the pub
and a view of a sunset over the hills
that colours the harbour , what a beautiful scene
all brought from my memory
with a tear in my eye
as the people who mattered have long since passed by .
