Vacation Elation
I didn’t sleep a wink, that night; I never do at the beach.
The gentle surf, it calls to me in the night and for a swimsuit I reach.
How it stimulates my imagination and I dream, with open eyes;
of caverns, deep and dark, where I may find a wondrous surprise.
I chat philosophy, with dolphins and swim for miles, with whales;
the jellyfish, they light my way, as I ride, a manatee’s tail.
I race sea horses and dance with starfish, too.
I find a vibrant world, beneath the Caribbean blue.
When morning comes I’ll down some toast and juice;
I’ll run down to that silver surf and swim an hour or two.
With sunlight’s fingers upon my back; the breeze will dry my hair.
Shortly I will have to leave; it really isn’t fair.
Back at home, I’ll write and paint my adventures at the sea;
and daydream all my workdays; till there again, I’ll be.
