Urban Doves

Outside the window ten pigeons descended from above Cooing and singing a song of comfort and love Every morning they came less one Still every morning their song they sung On the tenth day one came alone Singing and cooing his song on his own He sang all morning until the night Never once leaving my sight His cooing and singing suddenly stopped In a reverent bow his head dropped He stood motionless seeming to become bereft That was the moment you took your last breath He cooed one last song and then flew away I believe he was your guide to Heaven that day Some people see a pigeon as a nuisance and a pest But I know they are Urban Doves whom God has blest
