Up To My Knees

Standing alone At the shoreline tonight Up to my knees Somethings not right In the back of my mind There is this thing you see A something that is quiet But won't let me be As fast as I run I know it is there I try to stay still Trying to catch it unaware This something is cunning And lightning fast I know if I am strong It just won't last The wind in my face The rain at my back This something is close Seemingly poised for attack I kneel quietly in reverence Trying to connect My old tired ways In search of respect Standing alone At the shoreline tonight What once seemed dark Has become increasingly bright
