The branch that grew on its own No consideration of where it was sown Oh, the heights could it seek To become one that others would speak Look at this what I have will flourish Many shall see my example to nourish New heights and beauty of many branches All going in many directions Not seeing the way it was headed Even the spiders had quit netted As the branch was about to hit the power line The workers came by and chopped its spine Falling to the ground in unbelief What use shall I be of now in grief How many times did it refuse to be pruned Now laying in the dust of ruined

It's always good to look at different perspectives in life. We miss a lot when we focus on ourselves and the obvious. Well written with plenty to think about, Stephan. I want to congratulate you on having three of your poems published in the latest addition of Poetry Soup's Anthologies! YEAH !!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and those you love, my friend! Bill

The tree has been healthy enough to hoist its branches high and spread its arms all around it. We too are supposed to grow and not remain stunt. But our growth shouldn't in any way hinder another. If so we have to bear the consequences. Besides, occasional pruning fosters flowering and bearing fruit. Great metaphor, Stephan

I sincerely do not like trees being cut down...You nailed my feelings with these words: "the workers came by and chopped its spine." I know it has to be done especially when power lines are involved...call me silly but I wonder if the tree feels sad along with me. Must be my age, right? enjoy your evening, Sara

Just having fun in writing, but that we do not forget God and become our own idol in own works, taking in all earthly treasures, praise of man in blindness to be growing towards death, our ending will be with the One we follow, May God bless, comfort, guide and fill you with His peace, love, spirit and joy in abundance: )
