Unnoticed

I sit here incognito watching the world go by, I go unnoticed to passers by. I sit at the counter sipping my brew. A cup of coffee is the brew I choose. I see people come and I see people go not even one single face do I know. I try to extend a kind gesture or word but it rolls off of their shoulder unnoticed unheard. I remember a time not long ago when strangers would smile and say hello. That time seems gone , lost in a haze of racial aggression social contempt and rage. So, I'll just sit here unnoticed and try to convey a kind word or gesture to brighten some ones day.

That happens less and less these days. Here in the deep south it was unheard of to not be greeted by several strangers when out and about. No more ...we're just any other US area now. ...still worse where racism is concerned. Wonderful expression here dear Edward.

Good morning Darlene it's nice to hear others feel the same way. I actually wrote that poem while sitting at the counter of a local restaurant. Thank you again and I will be reading more of your work soon have a good day.
