Under the Porch Light

It's late at night the stars are aglow Quietly we huddle under the porch light I want to kiss you but feel unsure, you thank me politely for a night of fun, you dig through your purse searching for the house key I look for a sign that you want me to stay. You find it opening the door and closing the night. It's time for me to accept goodnight. The door is closed and yet I'm still under the porch light in solitude. I hear some giggles and see the curtain close. Your grandchildren seeking a peek at Memaws new man. I smile and wave goodbye. The frost in the air matches the frost in my hair There will be other nights under the porch light.
