Uncool Scene

Shifty eyed men and women standing around on a summer evening Passing by them I hear grumbling and veiled threats Pays to be careful You don't want to become a newspaper crime story or another statistic Summer in the vast metropolis Exciting yet dangerous I hurry past the crowd On the way to see my woman She, too must be careful to avoid an uncool scene city life requires caution So one can make the night smile In this - the asphalt homeland

seeing this one again, I sure wish you would enter Deb's Summer in the city contest. I know of nobody else here that writes as well as you do on the CITY.

Doesn't matter if it's a he or she, it is good advice to stay vigilant. Enjoyed your poem, Matthew. Something to think about! I will send you mail to say what the poem was about. Joe)

Very cool, Matthew! I too live in the city....& frequent rough neighborhoods for specialty foods...I have been confronted....but am pretty big guy...& just stand my ground like I do when I come across large mammals on my forest hikes in Superior Nat'l. Forest & just carry a 8" military blade on my hip for good measure!....thanks for visiting my work!....jimbo

yes, I think it must be so dangerous to walk at night in parts of NY. and even during daytime. I bet you know a lot about your city. You have so many poems on it!!
