Unburied

She pounded the last nail into the lid of the coffin The coffin that held her dream She sat there for a while In the silence Thinking of all it had meant What it was meant to be Her dream She threw herself over the coffin And wracked away with sobs The last hopes that lay Buried deep within her Silence No one had come to mourn No one had said a word Except when her dream was alive and well Only then Then…they told her “Look at the tell-tale signs Can’t you see? Something is amiss Your dream…Your dream is…sick It won’t make it It won’t survive.” She hadn't believed them Thought they had lied Yet, here she was She wiped her tears away What did they know? What did they care? How could they understand… That wrapped up there in her dream Was her beating heart She could not bear to bury it So, she pushed it underneath the shade Of a weeping willow tree Weeping Weeping For who she couldn't be And she walked away Dreamless Heartless Dead…. No, Richard. That's the whole thing. I don't. :( I used to think that maybe....but since joining this site....and seeing all the fine poetry here...I've come to realize...I'm just a drop in a bucket! I won't kid you. The dream is slowly dying...and so is my heart. Thanks, though, for the wonderful encouragement. I love and value your work and your opinion.

Wonderful. A subtle and complex poetic expression. An invitation to investigate the death of a dream. I feel this poem is a mirror in which any who read it will find a bit of themselves. Freakin' Awesome!!!!

Yes...a woman has her dreams...Not all can be fulfilled. I had to give up a dream because I'm a woman. Some things are just harder for us...This dream is about my work...my poetry...I hope one day to be published but who knows??? Maybe I don't have what it takes...The dream has taken a few blows of late...let's keep hoping..Thanks for asking....

Eileen, I know little about your private life, but you are married, and a woman has her dream/s as well...but perhaps I'm totally off the mark!

Yes...without hope, how would we survive? I do hope that I don't have to bury this last dream of mine, Paul....Thanks for visiting me!

Edgar Allen Poe would be impressed with this write if he were alive today. Fanciful descriptiveness.
