UMBER LEAVES OF OCTOBER upon umber leaf beneath cloud coddled blue skies fall's aroma comes as an earthen solemn grace mixture of dried leaves on ground

'an earthen solemn grace' is my favorite line. A special thanks for the picture-poem combo. All the trees in the front yards of my house and three to the left and three to the right have succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease, and it's a sad sight. No shade, no shelter, no leaves...

How beautiful is this tanka! Absolutely stunning imagery and flow of words. I love how you’ve written “beneath cloud coddled blue skies” so descriptive and creative! Very unique line! “ fall’s aroma comes” i can smell that through your words! “ earthen solemn grace” love that! “ mixture of dried leaves on the ground” brilliant! Your way with words always leave me in awe captivated! And with just few syllables you’ve nailed it! This would fit andreas contest for october very well! Beautiful read

Beautiful. I love the expression- 'cloud coddled skies'! Autumn is so fascinating with umber leaves lying piled under the trees and also strewn on pavements. Beautiful entry if it is for Andrea's contest. All the Best dear Sara.

The autumn leaves are fascinating. I remember school projects, such as outlinig the shapes of leaves, then filling in the color. Thsnk you for the poem.
