Ukulele

(A Tribute to Bruddah Iz: Hawaiian musician, singer, songwriter, and Hawaiian sovereignty activist May 20, 1959 – June 26, 1997) - Wikipedia A soft sweet sound he strummed with glee: “What a Wonderful World It Is!” Such songs he sang for you and me. A soft sweet sound he strummed with glee. Hawaiian landscapes we could see on hearing songs of Bruddah Iz. A soft sweet sound he strummed with glee: “What a Wonderful World It Is!” His ukulele Iz still plays, for he’s where peace and love abide, and island sunsets are ablaze! His ukulele Iz still plays. “Over the Rainbow” he now stays with angels singing on that side! His ukulele Iz still plays, for he’s where peace and love abide. Just delightful Andrea. Perfect for a "u" word. I have a dear friend from Hawaii whose grandfather invented the ukulele. The triolet, with its repeating refrain, so imitates a ukulele song. Congratulations on your win!

I attended his open casket funeral which was held in the round Grand Rotunda of the State capitol building that separates the State House and the State Senate, the squared upper floors are sixty feet above, and the balcony squares atop open down the rotunda below. --Continue...

The legislature offices are on the lower top floor, and the very top floor, city-side, is the Governor's, and the Waikiki-side (opposite), is the Lt. Governor.

Reads like a winner in Constance's contest to me. Way to go. I think he is the one who died very young from complications from something like diabetes. Thank you for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

I recently went camping and around the campfire a lady played and sang "Somewhere Over the rainbow" on the ukulele. It was fantastic. So is this entry for the contest. Best wishes...Charlie

He took the song and made it not only of the island but of him too. Words become immortal when more than one artist sings them or a poet claim to mintion their art and others know where the source comes from. The title forever rings this song in my memory.

Bruddah Iz was just a child during the years I spent in Honolulu. I shall have to look up his ukulele songs. Soup Mail

Andrea, So very nice to find this poem's 'Ukulele'. I loved the song 'Over the Rainbow' as a kid. Loved that voice, the magic of IZ, as it floated from the car radio. Still rejoice at the spirit of this man who only saw 38 summers - 'he’s where peace and love abide." Well done indeed. -Richard

Dear Andrea, There is nothing like the sweet sound of Iz singing Over the Rainbow. A haunting and melancholy sound so pure, that has always touched my heart . What a talent gone too soon . Great tribute my friend . Hugs, Susan :)
