Typewriter

Inside a closet, going through a stack of books and many boxes she had bound with tape, she came upon coats way in back and knew what underneath them would be found. The typewriter she’d gotten long ago, once used by her in college constantly, forlornly sat, invoking thoughts to flow, and lifting it, she pressed its letter “T.” It still got stuck. How some things never change! That brought her some small comfort, for despite “improvements“ in the world, she found things strange. The sticking key made everything seem right. With that, she put her typewriter away, its fate again delayed another day. Written 5/1/13

Might be the only sonnet ever written to a typewriter, but I loved the broader metaphor for nostalgia. Sometimes, it's the sticky keys that evoke memories, isn't it? Congratulations on your fine poem!

Like long play records and 8 track tapes. The future has taken on different shapes. A typewriter is a bag of bones. It's typewritten words are like ill fated loans. The debt is forgiven, but the lender still moans. :) Sweet memories Andrea.

I like when sonnets aren't just about what you say, but what you DON'T Say. There is a lot of room for the imagination to run wild here. I like how you captured the mystery of the typewriter... just looking at one, you can't help but open your mind a mile wide!

Yep! I had an old Underwood. Keys got stuck. You got used to just flipping over and up without breaking the flow. Love it. Typed a bunch of good stuff on that old typewriter. Love, daver
