True Love Waits

It was forty-seven long years ago, tho it feels as if yesterday, and still, you were my true love. Never did you know how much your love my very soul did fill. We had happy days, and passionate nights, and for a short time we danced with ease. It was not to last, for your love took flight, you were lost, and it brought me to my knees. Reminding you of a young love once passed, first you were attracted by her embrace. Saw love in your eyes, knew the die was cast; you flew to her, ripped my soul to lace. Now the love of my life was forever gone, with my shattered heart I tried to move on. I still have the memory of your touch; it will still reside in a treasured place. Tho now I recall not so very much, I can no longer see your smiling face. My life has moved on over the long years I’ve had many loves, and adored them so, and the sense of you no longer brings tears, for without your pain, my soul could not grow. I could not have known a heart can survive Tho you had been lost I could breathe again. Letting new love in, again feel alive ‘n filling the hole where once you had been. No more pain, or sorrow, no more regret but loving you, I will never forget.
