True Love
Hold my lonely heart once more
In soft, adoring hands.
Remind me that your love is true
Until I understand.
Again I wandered from your touch
To what I thought was best.
But now I find my heart deceived,
As shame does now attest.
The world called out to me anew
With promise of a mate.
His love for you he did declare,
But failed to demonstrate.
His spoken words of faith became
A lullaby to hear.
But never was it manifest
That fruits of faith were there.
I believed my vow to you intact
And none could put asunder,
The chance I took apart from you
Disclosed a selfish blunder.
Learning from a broken heart,
Though painful it can be,
Revealed that one foot in the world
Detaches me from Thee.
