Tribute
Tribute to my treasure’s hub
I’ve learned lot of things from you
I observed and listened each moment you spoke
Out of your mouth sweet words dripped
Like a taste of honey, your sweet words were soothing to my soul
Sometimes your sayings stung like a venomous snake
You knew when to spit poison to kill deceitful habits in me
I am, who I am, because you did not deprive me of discipline
Tribute to my treasure’s hub
Your wish was to have a meal that you did not buy with your hard earned money
I was young and I did not understand the yearning behind your desires
As I was growing up my eyes saw and my mind opened up
My ears heard of adversities single mothers go through
Only then I understood the yearnings behind your desires
I took a decision to grant you the yearning of your heart
I did not know how but I knew it was possible
Leaving home even when you did not want me to
You reasoned that I was too young to be away from your watch
I knew your love and guidance will remain with me even when I’m away
For as long as you are alive.
Blemishes from your stinging words swerved me away from dangers
Your sweet words gave me peaceful nights after a hard day of work
I kept every penny I got just to grant your wishes one day
Though you did not understand my mission but you gave me support
I remember our last meal as a family
You said something that put my heart at ease
In my dream, I dreamt of building a castle and have many servants
Servants to attend your cravings whenever you feel like eating
You said ’Bantwana bami bengingazi ngiyodla ukudla engikakuthenganga, kwami”
“I did not know I could have a free meal in my house bought by my kids”
Little did I know that you expected less than I imagined
To see you smiling while enjoying the sweat of your hard work
That night I sneaked in your bedroom to wish you a good night
You were asleep as I opened the door
It seemed like you felt my presence in the room
You smiled in your sleep, I was convinced all you wanted was to see us independent.
