Treasure Box

Dead white roses fade embalming to ivory and delicate lace These tears fall with thoughts like leaves How they fill heart’s green grass patch

Nice to meet you, Susan, thru this lovely poem. I’ve been thinking about me treasure box lately. Missing it. Do kids keep them these days? I was born 1951. Is this a generational thing? There was a faded yellow rose in mine. Thanks for sharing & for the memories. God bless you. sally

Hi Sally, I have two kids and they both had treasure boxes.. i was born in 1970 .. I don’t think it’s generational at all but rather human nature to hang onto and keep special things - how we store them is the main difference.. glad you liked this one.. the best to you :)

Superb imagery + word choice like the "...heart's green grass patch." Many congratulations! Sincerely, Brian

Congratulations on your win Susan. Your images truly illustrate your poem in shades of "ivory" and "lace." This tanka really makes a statement about grief and grieving. Thank you for your words. I guess we have settled into fall temperatures again! Hope it is more comfortable in the valley. Blessings! Sam

Wow, I don't know which of you (Susan, Joe) to thank for sharing! Both brilliantly said. Our tears communicate all kinds of feelings, they are useful!

Very thoughtful, intriguing. The old and the new combined. Often the old...what happened in the past, covers over any chance for a blossom future. Hopefully new blossoms will find a place to soar above such darkening pressures. Let the green be watered and the salt of such tears minimal, more quench than solvent. Excellent write!
