Touched Her Heart

When I close my eyes, I see my grandma
in her youth tending her flower garden.
And clad in sandals, she'd wiggle her toes
while lightly fingering the tactile earth.
Donning her favorite faded straw hat,
she'd spend hours amidst these floral jewels.
For she was very fond of bright colors
and often looked like a flower herself.
With a pair of flashy plastic earrings
and her knitted shawl, she looked like a doll.
And blended right in with her surroundings,
as if she was planted there by nature.
She enjoyed smelling and gently stroking
the blooms as they opened to her senses.
And treated her roses as living art,
priceless masterpieces that touched her heart.
