Touch the Earth
“God loves you.”
She learned this from a young age,
but in her wandering, she found decay,
destruction, the absence of warmth.
“God will protect you,”
but she fell time and time again
until her hands and knees were stained
with her doubts and regrets.
“God is just and faithful,”
but she found harsh, biting cruelty
and sank into the darkness
where the light couldn’t touch her,
and
the moon and the stars were blackened
with her longing and wishing
for a god that would reach down to touch
the earth.
