Too Little Too Late

The man to whom I have been wed, For low these many years, Has never shared his love with me, Now wants to share his fears. I Don't Want To. My feelings never mattered much, He told me, don't complain, And now we're old he thinks that I, Should gladly share his pain. Why Should I? When I am sick he doesn't care, I must care for myself, But if it's him then I must do, All that I can to help. For What Reason? I used to try to talk to him, Tried to build a bond. He didn't want to hash it out, And all I did he shunned. I'm Done Now. He says that I'm uninterested, Don't care, not a good wife. He should have learned so long ago, Good husbands make good wives. Judy Ball "So husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself for no one ever hated his own flesh but nourishes it and cherishes it just as Christ also loved the church." Ephesians 5:28-29 "Nevertheless let each idividual among you also love his own wife even as himself, and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband." Ephesians 5:33 Inspired by Russell Sivey's relationship contest

the title drug me in. but the content was so powerfull. i began wishing, i hope i'm not that man. but maybe after all these years he's cornered and has to submit. or admit that no one else is listening. if he has to tell you his problems; then insist that he listen to one of yours. or else, counceling. yours john

Thanks so much John. Glad you liked this. As for him, he is very self-absorbed and always has been. Doubt he's going to change now. God Bless my friend, JB

Hi Judy! This is such a great yet common story...I know so many couples who have stayed tortured together thru old age...it's scriptural, I know, but it is also very painful...Congrats on this outstanding win! Luv, Gwendolen

Congratulations on your placement in my contest Judy. You all left a piece of yourselves on this contest page. It was so very hard to judge. I am asking you all to read and comment on all the winners here. You will go away seeing into the hearts of all the winners. This was a very emotional contest for me. Thank you all for supporting this contest. Love and blessing to you all, Carol

It is that way in so many marriages..The man doesn't have a clue..Most don't have any idea what the Bible says and surely don't obey the Word of God..Enjoyed reading your work..Reads like a winner..Good luck..Thanks for the kind review..Sara

Powerful and mixed emotions Judy in this fine piece of poetry. And your so right, there is a lot of this going around. It's surviving it that's the challenge. Me personally, I'm looking forward to being single again, and have time for me. Have a lovely Sunday :)

You got that right my friend. Marriage is like a bed or roses complete with thorns. Thanks bunches, glad you like it. It's important to think about your mate now and then and make that person feel special to you. It does a lot for the relationship. God Bless, JB

Judy, I loved that a contest inspired you to write something profound and emotional. I like the contests, but sometimes they are SO restrictive (lines, forms, etc.) that they miss the mark in allowing words to just flow, and the poem to just... become... AND still be welcomed as an entry. Rules may hone skills, but I think that they OUST the true nature of creativity, rigid limitations squelch flow. MHO. :-) This is beautiful, by the way. Stars to you... hugs, Cyndi

Thanks so much Cyndi. Glad you like it so much. I agree too many rules squelch creativity. Thus I wrote the poem but could not enter it because it was the wrong form. Thanks bunches. God Bless, JB
