Today
today
the day
to atone for the cruelty of the child
I bought an hibiscus
in the bay windows
we will survive the memories of flowers past
as the zoo keeper slicing a cork
with needles I made a cage
waiting for the bee to enter the flower
entrapped with three fingers avoiding the sting
I watched it buzz the lost of its freedom
as I ate a toast spread with honey
today
the day
to go to the maples and the little bee watching me
as always it lives in my heart.
