To Weather the Storm

Tears merging with heavy raindrops As I walk amongst the raucous patter Drenched under the blanket of dusk My umbrella swinging from my wrist Unable to shelter me from this blistering pain My fingers, wrinkled and pruned Holding the remnants of a saturated letter It was over, it was done Cast in smeared purple ink I let the envelope float to the ground Staring at my reflection in the slick road Wondering who was looking back at me The girl who had everything, yet remained incomplete Would need to become the girl that weathered the storm July 12, 2021
