To the One I Lost
I’ve written maybe twenty poems or more
for you, and still I know that more I’ll write.
One glimpse of you and I could not ignore
the tall young man in front of me one night
when I was working in a store alone.
I saw you watching me; it made me blush.
I thought you looked like an Adonis clone!
And when you smiled, it gave me such a rush.
For just one week I knew you, my sweet boy,
and in that too-short time I learned so much.
I learned how wonderfully love brings joy,
but then you went back home. We kept in touch
but I’d gone on to college. In a while
your calls came less and less, and where you are
today I have no clue, but oh, your smile!
You’ll always be my wish upon a star.
